How Clean is your water?
At ADE our mission is to help you run your business better from a holistic approach. Therefore, the care that your patient receives is our concern as well. Though we do not doubt the skilled hands that perform each procedure, have you thought about how clean is that water that you are using to rinse out your patients mouth? Do you trust it?
Water facts:
Untreated municipal water
- A surprising percentage of dentists rely on municipal water. However, untreated municipal water does not meet the standard of care in the dental units.
- Untreated water is the ideal medium for biofilm buildup.
- Daily flushing does not slow the growth of biofilm. In fact, as biofilm grows, contamination exposure also increases
Distilled water
- Distilled water is free of minerals but it is not sterile, the moment it is opened it is contaminated.
- As distilled water enters dental units, it will be subjected to the same process of contamination as municipal water.
- While it may take longer for biofilm to grow, distilled water is the perfect environment for bacteria and biofilm growth.
Decontamination Pills
- Pills added to water system can be effective in controlling some bacterial growth. However, this requires constant monitoring and maintenance.
- Water lines must be cleaned regularly. This is time consuming, costly and introduces the risk of chemicals being left in water line.
- The risk of handling error while mixing the chemicals or shocking the system is high and the system must be constantly tested for efficacy.
